What to Expect
01
Come as you are
Jeans, shorts, or Sunday best. Whatever is comfortable for you. There’s no dress code here.
As you enter the worship space, an usher will provide you with a worship bulletin. You may sit anywhere you like, provided that it is an open pew.
02
Children
NWHUMC loves having children in worship!
Children are welcome to stay with their parents, participate in Children’s Ministry, or play and learn in our Praise and Wonder Prayground, located on the right side of the sanctuary.
03
Holy Communion
Holy Communion is celebrated at both services every Sunday.
At Northwest Hills UMC, all are welcome to Christ’s table.
04
You’re Not Alone
A member of our welcome team will greet you at the front entrance to the Sanctuary.
After service, we invite you to stay and talk with others and with our pastors following the service.
Contemporary Worship
The contemporary service is less liturgical, meaning fewer traditional prayers. Our band consists of vocalists and instrumentalists including guitar, drums, and keyboard. Holy Communion is offered every Sunday, and everyone is invited to take communion, including children.
Traditional Worship
The traditional service includes many of the classic liturgical elements that come to mind when you think of church. The congregation joins together in hymns, accompanied by the organ, piano, Sanctuary Choir, and Ring of Faith Handbell Choir. Holy Communion is offered every Sunday, and everyone is invited to take communion, including children.
Directions and Parking
Northwest Hills UMC is located at 7050 Village Center Dr., Austin, TX 78731. We’re about a half-mile up Far West from Mopac, across from the HEB. Parking is available in the main lot off of Village Center Drive, as well as the back lot by the Youth Center off of Hart Lane.
Handicap-accessible parking is available in the front of the lot on Village Center Drive, and in a few spots next to the wheelchair ramp on Hart Lane. Our Sanctuary is located on the second floor of our main building and is accessible via elevator by entering through the office doors from the Village Center Drive lot and turning left down the hallway.
Ways to Get Involved
Children
NWHUMC loves having children in worship! When you walk into the Sanctuary, we have a children’s activity center with coloring pages, fidget toys, and books to help young one’s engage with that week’s scripture reading.
On the right side of our sanctuary, you can find out our Praise ’n Wonder Prayground! More than a place to play—it’s a place where our youngest worshipers can sing, pray, listen, create, and experience worship alongside the whole congregation. The sounds and energy of children are signs of a vibrant, growing church, and giving young families a place to belong helps nurture faith for generations to come.
Elementary-aged children are invited and encouraged to serve as acolytes at both the 9 and 11 o’clock services. To sign your children up to acolyte, click here. Questions? Contact our Children’s Director, Heather Taylor at heather@nwhillsumc.org.
Nursery care is available from 8:45 – 12:15 every Sunday, and we have fun opportunities for Children to connect with one another and grow their young faith during Children’s Church, Music, and Son Shine Hour from 9:20 – 11:00am. For more information, visit our Children’s Ministry page.
All childcare staff and volunteers are Safe Gatherings trained to provide a safe environment for young ones in their care. Learn more about safety training in the Rio Texas Conference of the UMC here.
